Artist Statement

My artwork delves into the emotional and psychological states that shape my inner world, focusing on the balance between order and chaos. Through various mediums—abstract paintings, charcoal drawings, and ceramic sculptures—I explore how these forces interact and impact human experience, particularly about Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). A recurring theme in my work is the concept of "splitting," a psychological phenomenon associated with BPD, where one tends to see things in extremes, such as all good or all bad. In my abstract paintings, I use dynamic forms, contrasting colors, and rhythmic compositions to represent the internal struggle for balance amid chaotic forces. These pieces create an immersive experience, reflecting the tension between opposing energies that often mirror my journey toward equilibrium. In contrast, my charcoal drawings are grounded in realism, portraying still-life compositions and portraits that explore the subtleties of human emotion. While quieter in tone, these works offer a reflective counterbalance to the chaos of my abstract paintings, creating a dialogue between the two styles. Ceramics allow me to explore the tactile nature of emotional states. I manipulate form and texture to externalize the push and pull of emotions, deepening my connection to the material. This medium enables me to translate complex psychological experiences, like disassociation—a detachment from reality—into physical, distorted forms, further emphasizing the sensation of being caught between realities. My art exists at the intersection of internal conflict and external expression. By blending abstract and representational forms, I invite viewers to engage with the emotional and psychological tensions I navigate daily, offering a space for reflection on both personal and universal struggles with balance and identity.
